GREAT music!
Namocell
41:57
what percentage of 9th grade students are in TEAM?
Katya Villalobos
42:47
It is about 20-25% of 9th grade class
liz k
43:18
Does everyone that signs up get in?
Samantha Fan
44:26
Does this count as a elective?
Katya Villalobos
44:29
If only a 75 sign up then all will get in. Depending on how many sign up we can expand because we have teachers.
Tamara Gracon
44:55
Is there a way to do TEAM and Social Studies or English Honors? If you do not do Honors Freshmen Year is it possible Sophomore year? Does it make Soph Honors classes harder?
Katya Villalobos
45:08
TEAM is not a separate class—their TEAM classes are English, History and Biology
Katya Villalobos
45:57
There is no Honors History and English is accelerated that is what the A stands for.
Katya Villalobos
46:50
Students are ready for their classes, English is accelerated.
jenglos
48:39
So is TEAM 75 students then? Or 150 if expanded?
Karin Kolb
49:59
That’s approx the idea!
jenglos
50:24
I’m also curious to understand the impact on TEAM if you can’t do field trips (or are limited) because of covid.
Namocell
53:07
what's the difference between TEAM curriculums and non-TEAM?
Stephanie Bradley
54:06
Assuming there are 75 students, are the classes mixed up within those 75 students or do they stick with the same smaller group of kids for all 3 core classes?
Katya Villalobos
54:27
Were are aligned with our departments—each of us are part of content learning teams
Katya Villalobos
55:09
yes the students are mixed up in the 3 courses—same group in biology, English, and hsitory
Katya Villalobos
55:18
Oops History
jenglos
56:06
Katya: I don’t understand. Does the same smaller group of kids have all 3 of their TEAM classes together?
Katya Villalobos
56:55
Yes all the 3 classes together, sorry not be clear
jenglos
57:11
Thanks!
Zubair Malik
57:48
The same set of kids won’t have all three classes together. all of team will be distributed through the classes. to clarify
Rahul Shetty
57:56
At what point are students introduced to the concept of TEAM as an entity and community? Will 8th graders be told about it this year (while in middle school) or when they enter Paly?
Aavriti Kataria
58:13
How do you sign up for TEAM when selecting other subjects.
Zubair Malik
58:40
it is only 9th grade so students find out about this in 8th grade :) as student leaders we go to them as well to answer questions
Karin Kolb
58:55
They will here about it when they are doing course selections in the coming weeks. There will be a video that the Paly counselors will share with 8th graders
Katya Villalobos
58:56
In the course selection—pick TEAM it is on the 9th grade worksheet
Tamara Gracon
59:11
Is it just 9th grade? Does it impact course selection in 10-12? Are there social activities 10-12?
Katya Villalobos
59:40
The counselors will be visiting the middle schools in the following weeks and will here about TEAM in the presentation about Paly.
Zubair Malik
59:42
it does not. there are other pathways and options later in high school but team is 9th grade only and it does not close any options for you
Katya Villalobos
59:49
TEAM is only for 9th grade
Karin Kolb
59:51
TEAM is just for 9th grade. If they want to continue the connection they have an option to sign-up as a TEAM Leader
Sophie Ho
01:00:49
How do new PAUSD students sign up for TEAM?
Karin Kolb
01:01:20
New to the District: When you meet with the Play Counselor, you let them know
Karin Kolb
01:01:38
*Paly

01:03:45
What is the difference between Bio and Bio H in TEAM?
Elizabeth Garr
01:04:41
Seems hard to find any down sides to doing TEAM! What about if your child is on a sports team--would that prevent them from attending one or more of the field trips?
Zubair Malik
01:04:47
in TEAM specifically we go deeper into subjects and do additional projects. outside of team bio and bio h is in different classes
Zubair Malik
01:05:28
you are not required to go on the field trips and there is the option to stay behind. there is also alternative driving options where you can pick them up
Nikita Goel
01:05:47
Please explain the multiple options for Math lanes
Rebecca Buckman
01:06:42
What time of year is the Yosemite trip?
Leilani Yau
01:06:43
When is the trip to Yosemite in a non covid year? Fall?
Leilani Yau
01:06:54
jinx!
Zubair Malik
01:07:02
November 4-9 is usually Yosemite
Katya Villalobos
01:07:10
Scott Friedland Math Department sfriedland@pausd.org
Karin Kolb
01:07:23
TEAM is usually in the first two weeks of November
Zubair Malik
01:08:12
if you would like a student perspective of the math lanes I’d be happy to answer :) my email is zm30089@pausd.us
jchien
01:08:16
Sorry, I couldn’t join earlier. Where can I find the recording of this meeting?
Katya Villalobos
01:08:44
We will post it on the TEAM website sometime tomorrow.
jchien
01:09:00
Thanks, Katya
jenglos
01:12:02
Could you talk a bit about your hopes for field trips next year? I know we don’t know yet how much in-person schooling there will be… what were you able to do this year? You mentioned a Baylands trip…
Zubair Malik
01:12:43
that was this year. TEAM is really left to the students and parents so joining team will give you a little influence there
Virginia Rock
01:12:47
The kids did “swag pick up events” with a social aspect, for example
Virginia Rock
01:13:06
The online social gatherings
Leilani Yau
01:13:11
Is there a new bio curriculum in TEAM? Someone mentioned on the Paly parent Facebook group. Something about a disease model?
Zubair Malik
01:13:33
the whole of 9th grade bio does that model
Zubair Malik
01:13:51
the curriculum is more of less exactly the same with slight modifications for the field trips and bonding
Zubair Malik
01:14:08
you can expect your student to learn the same stuff
Leilani Yau
01:14:51
Got it. Thanks Zubair! With a smaller cohort, is there an opportunity for cross subject project based work?
Katya Villalobos
01:15:06
@Yau—I believe you referring to a class activity. Bio follows Next Generation Science Standards
Zubair Malik
01:15:31
usually not much but there is a program for 10-12 graders called Social Justice Pathway which focuses on that exact thing
jenglos
01:16:04
Thank you for answering all our questions!
Virginia Rock
01:16:37
My son had Ms. Brimhall for Bio (in TEAM) and his friend who was not in TEAM had Ms. Brimhall also. They studied together and had a very similar experience.
Zubair Malik
01:20:02
I have a class right now where I don’t know anyone but I recongnised someone from my team year and I instantly felt better regardless of me not knowing them
Zubair Malik
01:20:10
to add to that ^
Virginia Rock
01:21:52
If being a parent lead is interesting to you, please let Ms. Brimhall know and she can connect us!
